The model 101, which was designed by Gianfranco Frattini in the late 1950s, was considered way ahead of its time. The extreme semplification of the design, which made it appropriate for residential, commercial and communal uses, continued and reaffirmed the line of research that Gio Ponti had initiated at Cassina with his "La Leggera" of 1952.
